On 2026-08-20, the veteran actor Li Guangfu posted that the old man in the 15-minute reveal was captured with his face, writing that he was glad to meet players through "this novel method of facial capture" in Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Guangming Online relayed the post the same day. His career credits — national first-class actor, Beijing People's Art Theatre, Zheng Xipo in In the Name of the People — describe the person; they reach the archive through a 2026-09-06 trade relay, not through a studio cast credit. The character has no official name or role title.

The trade press reports the protagonist's face model as Dai Zhili (social handle "戴zhili-"; outlets also write the name Dai Zhili / 戴志立, and the archive keeps it marked unverified). Two threads exist: on 2026-08-20 the model himself confirmed on his own social account that he performed face modelling and facial capture for the protagonist, saying he was surprised to see himself fighting on screen; on 2026-09-06 a Game Science–adjacent developer, Hu Yuan, published several face-model identifications on social media, relayed by Zhibo8, which names Dai as the protagonist's face model. He had previously modelled official Black Myth licensed apparel. Neither thread is a studio casting announcement; voice acting is not stated.
